Thursday, July 19, 2007 - Pocomoke City, MD

Barry, Barb, Dora and I took both dinghies up the Pocomoke River about 14 miles to the town of Snow Hill, Maryland. We left about 0800. The River is sparsely developed between the two cities. The uplands are densely wooded with cypress and other tree species. We saw at least eight bald eagles on the way up and several more coming back. The Pocomoke River is one of the least spoiled and most scenic rivers I have ever been on.

The town of Snow Hill was similar of the towns we have visited on our trip. They are trying to improve the waterfront and downtown area to attract tourists and boaters. There were numerous fine, historic homes near the downtown, many of them very large. We had an excellent lunch at a small restaurant in the center of town. Barry and I relaxed on a park bench while Dora and Barb went through a small museum.

By the time we started back, the wind had increased from the southwest. The trees blocked most of the wind so the ride back wasn’t too rough. Just before dark, a strong thunderstorm passed through. We had to scramble to better secure the dinghy just before it started pouring down rain and blowing hard. The storm didn’t last long and it was calm and cooler by 1830.
